E.DSO WEBINAR #DSO4GreenRecovery
After COVID-19: How to get the green transition back on track – the role of electricity DSOs
12 May, 15:30-17:30 (CEST)
On 12 May E.DSO organised a webinar on the implications of the COVID-19 crisis for distribution system operators and the wider energy system. Since the beginning of the crisis, electricity consumption has plummeted, particularly in the industrial sectors. There is a significant degree of economic uncertainty affecting those sectors, including energy suppliers. Also distribution companies have been affected in various ways. Many had to limit their activities to the provision of essential services, to be able to guarantee the health and safety of their employees and customers. This means there may be some delays in the roll-out of smart meters, for example, and in DSOs’ overall investment programmes.
Together with experts from Europe and abroad we took stock of the regulatory, technological and customer-related implications of COVID-19, and what is needed for a speedy (economic) recovery. We discussed how DSOs can contribute to this recovery, bringing the green transition back on track, and what kind of regulation is needed in that regard.
