InnoGrid 2023 – On 9 June 2023, the 12th edition of InnoGrid, jointly organised by E.DSO and ENTSO-E, started with the Projects Session, in which 12 research and innovation initiatives were presented. They focused on solutions to advance on long-term energy transition technology development to meet the EU long-term climate objectives when coping at the same time with energy emergency measures.
With electrification ramping up, large investments will be needed from transmission (TSOs) and distribution system operators (DSOs). This year Innogrid conference discusses short versus long-term options for technology solutions and market perspectives to foster investment.
George Paunescu, Policy Officer, DG Energy, European Commission, opened and closed the Projects Session that was organised around three main themes: Electrification, Digitalisation and Cooperation. 12 project representatives showcased the developments of innovative solutions in the framework of this year’s conference theme. ‘Today we have seen research and innovation in action, with projects proposing solutions to the challenges of the energy sector. The three dimensions of Electrification, Digitalisation and Cooperation are interconnected and represent the trilemma of a green and digital energy transition’, underlined George Paunescu in his closing remarks. The participating projects represented indeed a broad palette in terms of maturity, approach and financial background, enabling to explore the 3 key topics from multiple angles.
