E.DSO appoints Johan Mörnstam as new Chair of the Association

10 October 2024

At today’s E.DSO Board of Directors meeting in Limassol, Cyprus (kindly hosted by Electricity Authority of Cyprus) Johan Mörnstam, the CEO of E.ON Sverige was appointed as new E.DSO Chair for a two year mandate.

“I am very pleased and honoured to take on this important role for the Association in the present challenging environment for our DSO community’, stated Johan Mörnstam in his inauguration speech. ‘E.DSO has been a key player in European advocacy. But we can become even stronger by strengthening transparency and coordination among E.DSO members and by further increasing cooperation with other DSO associations and stakeholders beyond the energy sector.”

At today’s meeting, the E.DSO Board of Directors has also proceeded with the appointment/re-appointment of its five Vice-Chairs: José Ferrari Careto, CEO of E-REDES Portugal; Eva Mancera, CEO of i-DE; David Peters, Chief Transition Officer at Stedin; José Manuel Revuelta, Head of ENEL Grids Iberia, Enel Grids and Franz Strempfl, Managing Director of Energienetze Steiermark.

Johan Mörnstam succeeds Christian Buchel, Enedis’ Management Board member who served as E.DSO Chair from 2017 to 2024. Outgoing E.DSO Chair Buchel noted that “It has been a great honour to lead this remarkable association for seven years. Together, from Finland to Portugal, Ireland to Cyprus, we championed the critical role of DSOs – the backbone of the energy transition – within European regulations, from the Clean Energy Package to the Grid Action Plan and the EU DSO Entity. I believe we helped build a united, sovereign, and innovative Europe, serving its citizens and regions. We can be proud of our achievements, and I am fully confident that Johan, along with the newly elected VPs, will guide this group into the future.”

Johan Mörnstam is CEO of E.ON Sweden and Nordic since April 2023 and Vice President and Member of the Board of the EU DSO Entity. Mr Mörnstam has previously been involved with E.DSO as a Vice-Chair and Chair of the Policy & Regulation Committee.
