EDSO Chairman and Secretary General meet the Management Board of HEDNO, the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator
Mr. Christian Buchel, Chairman of EDSO, Deputy CEO and Chief Digital Officer of Enedis, which manages the largest electricity distribution network in France, accompanied by Roberto Zangrandi, Secretary General of EDSO, met on Friday, September 8, 2017, with Mr. Nikos Chatziargyriou, Chairman and CEO of HEDNO and the Management Board of HEDNO at its headquarters in Athens.
Purpose was to gather updated information on the impressive technological progress made by the company on projects for smart and micro grids and digital technologies, with particular emphasis on smart meters, for developing intelligent systems in the islands of the Greek archipelago.
Highly appreciating HEDNO’s growing knowledge and know-how on the above areas, Mr. Buchel invited HEDNO to continue strengthening its role within the European Association, by further deepening their participation and cooperation. HEDNO, member of EDSO since its constitution, is acknowledged among the most technologically sound DSOs in Europe.
EDSO, through its Technology and Project committees, is the largest repository of evolving and advanced technologies in the European electric distribution industry.
Mr. Nikos Chatziargyriou remarked that “HEDNO, active in several Research and Innovation projects within European frameworks including H2020, has gained outstanding view on the need of the DSOs to pursue a continued, more efficient and advanced management of distribution systems and grids: this is basic to guarantee adequate toolboxes for the energy transition. On the other hand, Greece, with its insular characteristics, is a natural laboratory to test and fine tune the most advanced grid systems – and this is what we are trying to do here on an open and cooperative model”.
Mr. Buchel, from his part, pointed out: “I believe the DSOs are in an historical position to foster energy transition and development of massive decentralized renewable energy. To do so, DSOs transform themselves and by using the digital technologies: we will then do even more to contribute to energy efficiency, foster the energy transition and make our consumers becoming prosumers. We now have the opportunity to shape the future of the energy industry.”
