E.DSO, GEODE and Eurelectric published on 7th March 2022 a Joint Position on the Fit for 55 package (FF55) focusing on the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the Regulation on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure (AFIR). The Joint Position contains recommendations about the way the three legislative proposals could be improved to better equip Distribution System Operators (DSOs) to contribute to the energy transition.
DSOs are the key enablers of the energy transition fostering the integration of renewable energy sources and flexibility services, the deployment of energy efficient solutions and the empowerment of customers. While the FF55 recognizes the role of DSOs, it should do more to equip them with the necessary instruments to facilitate the transition to a decentralized, integrated, and efficient energy system.
The Joint Position would be very useful to the Members of the European Parliament and the Council given the advanced stage of the legislative process on these files. E.DSO, GEODE and Eurelectric remain at the disposal of the co-legislators to elaborate on the recommendations in the paper.
