Distributed Processing Platform

Currently, the implementation of smart applications in secondary substations requires the installation of specific one-purpose equipment. The Distributed Processing Platform (DPP) system concept developed by i-DE aims at decoupling hardware from software applications so that a single, central hardware system can host multiple specialised applications and enable local data processing.

As part of several working groups, such as Futured Smart Secondary Substation and the E4S Alliance, i-DE has been involved in the evaluation and analysis of the DPP technology. As the next step, an Edge Computing laboratory will be developed in the Global Smart Grid Innovation Hub of i-DE to test new business use cases to be integrated into the DPP architecture.
