Low voltage (LV) networks are unbalanced systems and, as such, they are sensitive to non-compliance with quality supply requirements which affects customers and can drastically reduce the performance of distributed generation. In this context, UFD designed the LV Network Smart Balancer system, achieving voltage balance in the LV network and substantially increasing its efficiency by means of smart power transfer among phases.
The scalable solution, relying on distributed equipment installed on the LV network and an associated IT platform, allowed for a significant reduction in over-voltage and under-voltage meter events across different locations in Spain. Moreover, the management of voltage unbalance by the system proved to be highly performant in bringing flexibility to LV networks characterised by distributed generation, unbalanced loads and long line sections.
