Local Energy Optimisation in Electricity Grids

Neoflex

The difficulty in predicting the feed-in of decentralised energy resources and the consumption of flexible loads, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps, introduces challenges for the stable operation of energy grids. To address the occurrence of power peaks, flexibility management represents a possible alternative to grid reinforcement but requires increasing network observability and reliable communication between the DSO and the flexible assets. To overcome these challenges, E.ON has developed the neoflex solution consisting of a decentralised function to control flexible assets and an algorithm to calculate times of local energy deficit or surplus.

The system, whose functioning is independent of communication reliability, enhances grid stability and resilience while improving grid planning and operation security. As the next step, neoflex will be optimised for international use through real laboratory testing according to diverse and changing requirements.
