Artificial Intelligence | Local Energy Optimisation in Electricity Grids

O-One

The increasing penetration of decentralised generation can lead to a growing risk of local and punctual congestion in distribution grids which can speed up the ageing of devices and increase the likelihood of load shedding. As a consequence, new solutions are needed to dynamically adjust the connection capacity of decentralised production. The O-One algorithm, co-developed by ORES, interprets network topology and real-time measurement data to anticipate the risk of congestion and, if necessary, send modulation requests to producers.

While 302 MW of capacity are currently controlled by O-One, the application of the algorithm allows ORES to offer additional flexible capacity in contracts with producers, granting a 15% average increase in production by wind farms. The solution will soon be rolled out across Wallonia.
