The rapid growth in rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installations can lead to voltage problems within the low voltage (LV) grid which, in turn, hampers the connection of new PV installations. Specifically, adherence to voltage quality standards becomes increasingly challenging. To tackle this challenge, the Lithuanian network codes were amended introducing grid voltage support requirements for this type of installation.
In this context, ESO launched the Smart Data project with the goal of utilising smart meter data to validate whether the prosumer’s PV inverters had activated the function providing grid voltage support. Based on the analysis performed by the tool, notifications can be sent to prosumers and installation contractors. In 2023, this allowed the identification of 3969 prosumers who had not activated the grid voltage support function.
