The earthing system is the most relevant security system in electrical infrastructure and reflects the state of health of electrical installations. As such, its continuous monitoring can ensure the early identification of anomalous situations. For this purpose, UFD developed the SMART Earthing Monitor System, capable of determining if the earthing system is in a proper working state or if any corrective action is needed to guarantee the safety of the asset.
The system, already installed on more than 3500 assets, was integrated with an app-based procedure to harmonise maintenance procedures and offer specific recommendations in case of detected deviations. The development of a breakage detection function further allowed the identification of a weak point in UFD’s medium voltage distribution network by monitoring predictive key performance indicators.
