Dangerous accidents can occur inside primary substations if electrical safety rules are not followed correctly. To safeguard its employees, Westnetz GmbH (E.ON Group) has introduced the Voltector, a sensor-based device that detects electrical hazards and emits a warning sound when the operator is in unintentional proximity to active parts in medium voltage switchgear cubicles.
While the Voltector does not represent a substitute for safety instructions specified by regulations, the device intends to help prevent human error without impacting their daily tasks. The rollout of the Voltector on Westnetz substations started in August 2024 and will be followed by the adoption by other DSOs in the E.ON Group.
