EDSO and ENCS join forces to combine strengths on cyber security and standardisation

The cooperation paves the way for knowledge exchange for security regulations, effective cyber security practices and standardisation for energy distribution companies.

Distribution System Operators’ Association for Smart Grids (EDSO) and European Network for Cyber Security (ENCS) are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the view of working together on knowledge exchange for security regulations, effective cyber security practices and standardisation for energy distribution companies. Both organisations are bringing years of expertise in the field of energy distribution and cyber security.

EDSO for Smart Grids is the European association of electricity distribution system operators (DSOs) working to bring smart grids from vision to reality in Europe and is focused on guiding EU RD&I, policy and Member State regulation to support this development.

ENCS is a non-profit member organization that brings together critical infrastructure stake owners and security experts to deploy secure European critical energy grids and infrastructure.
Signing the MoU, both organisations are mutually agreeing to provide technical knowledge and expertise on policy level related to cyber security, to support each other in working groups and committees, as well as to share information with their members about new developments creating stronger knowledge sharing activities within both networks.

‘‘Safe and secure electricity networks are vital for Europe’s economy. As the development of distributed generation, smart metering and related distribution network digitalisation and connectivity continues to grow, so do the associated risks related to privacy. Cyber security is therefore becoming ever more important against these challenges. We strongly welcome our cooperation with ENCS in this field as a major step to ensuring the safety of our energy system infrastructure.’ Ana Aguado, Secretary-General, EDSO for Smart Grids.’

‘’We are thrilled to have entered in a cooperation with EDSO. ENCS has been working hard on issues related to cyber security, distribution automation and smart metering. This cooperation will provide necessary tools to make significant steps forward in cyber security. We are looking forward to having EDSO work with us, to jointly share information and make cyber security even stronger.’ Anjos Nijk, ENCS Managing Director.’
